Welcome from NURAP FY22 President

Dear NURAP Community,

Welcome to FY22! The NURAP Steering Committee is excited to welcome our newest FY22 members:

Steering Committee members: James Bruning (Administrative Assistant 3, School of Communication), Regime Dean (Research Administrator, SPARC), and Lauren Rudolph (Senior Research Administrator, Pulmonary Division).

Ad Hoc members: Oolka Dixit (Research Administrator, Psychology), Gloria Frazier (Research Administrator, Basic Science Administration), TJ Hubbs (Senior Research Administrator, Neurology), Kimberly Mater (Research Administrator, Medicine), Sam Mombou (Assistant Director, Proposals & Award Acceptance, Sponsored Research), and Marta Wasko (Associate Research Administrator, Basic Science Administration).

Welcome to all of our new members and a huge thank you to our outgoing members – we are incredibly grateful for your contributions over the years to the NURAP Steering Committee and community at large.

Last year was another successful year for NURAP. Over the past year and a half, we successfully transferred all our meetings and trainings to an online format, allowing for increased participation. Our online NURAP@Noon events continue to be a highlight for many of our members and a source for education and opportunities for networking. We re-launched our CRA training sessions, complete with an online format for participants, including live presentations that were also recorded and a practice test for those interested in the CRA exam. We have decided to include a Fall component of our training sessions, which includes weekly emails to view the recordings and links to our training materials. Though that session is well underway, please feel free to reach out to NURAP if you have any questions and be on the look-out for the next round of CRA training sessions. NURAP also has financial assistance awards for trainings, workshops and conferences inside and outside of Northwestern. Our CRA Scholarships and Professional Development Awards, formerly known as travel awards, are available to NURAP members interested in advancing their careers in research administration. Our award opportunities will be launching again in FY22, so please stay tuned. In addition to our website, one of the best ways to keep in touch with NURAP and explore our offerings is exactly what you’re doing now, reading our newsletter! We hope to provide increased opportunities for newsletter features and resources throughout the year. If you have an idea for a newsletter article or a general suggestion, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

As NURAP starts FY22, we hope to engage with each of you more throughout the year. FY22 promises to be another year of growth and opportunity as we begin the transition back to campus. Though many of our events and activities will remain online or in hybrid format we do plan to incorporate in-person sessions as we are able to and in compliance with Northwestern guidelines. We miss the opportunity to be in community with all of you.

Some of you have been NURAP members for many years and have a wealth of knowledge to share with the entire NURAP community. Don’t be shy, we really want to hear from you!

See you soon!
