NURAP@Noon December Recap: Virtual Meeting Platforms

Missed December’s NURAP@Noon? See below for a short recap and visit on Event Resources page on the NURAP website to view the recorded session.

December’s NURAP@Noon explored three different meeting platforms: Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Gather. Yael Mayer, Melissa Mizwa, and Morgan Eklund presented useful tips for utilizing these platforms in different meeting scenarios. Yael presented the powerful integration tools that MS Teams offers, especially for connecting quickly to colleagues. Users can make use of the quick call features for impromptu video or audio calls. With MS Teams calendar integration, you can see if your colleagues are available, busy, away or offline. The presentation provided walk throughs of some of MS Teams most powerful meeting features, including Q&A, polling, whiteboards, and reporting tools. Melissa presented Zoom’s powerful tools for webinar hosting and considerations for deciding between a webinar or meeting. Some of those considerations include determining level of participant involvement, anonymity needs, branding and, reporting. Zoom gives you the ability to require authentication to join your meeting or webinar – you can view the list of included domains in the app or on the website and make changes, as necessary. The presentation also included best practices for hosting hybrid events. Morgan presented on, what might be a newer platform for many, Gather. Gather is unique in that it simulates in person meetings. Users can move their avatar around a virtual room with chairs, tables, rugs, plants (all customizable!) and interact with others in the room. This creates more of an interactive experience for your users. As you walk up to individuals within the virtual room their videos appear on your screen. Gather is great to use for virtual conferences or if your team is experiencing fatigue from standard virtual meeting platforms. There are some cost considerations, so be sure to check out the recording using the link above.

We hope to see you at our next NURAP@Noon. Be sure to join the NURAP listserv to receive announcements about future NURAP events.
